Pete Olynciw is a New Orleans-based bassist, a musical omnivore with a collaborative spirit and improvisational attitude. In his trio, Olynciw plays music influenced by the musical traditions of New Orleans, both as the birthplace of Jazz, and as the northernmost Caribbean city. He plays music from across those branches of the musical family tree, Jazz, New Orleans R&B, Latin Jazz, Funk, many styles of Caribbean music and beyond.
Having made New Orleans his home for over a decade, Olynciw has become a familiar face at many venues around town, such as Bacchanal Wine and Snug Harbor. Best known for his work with recording artist Leyla McCalla, and as a member of genre bending Calypso band Charlie Halloran and The Tropicales, he has been able to bring music to audiences both locally and globally, from jazz clubs to concert halls and beyond.
