The Golden Compass Trio is a band of young (well, middle aged by now) upstarts that’s dedicated to playing the traditional music of New Orleans, while also expanding on that tradition with their own renditions, arrangements, and compositions.
The trio consists of Bryce Eastwood on woodwinds and vocals, Ben Fox on upright bass and vocals, and Mike Clement on acoustic guitar. Each member has played with New Orleans culture bearers from the likes of Allen Toussaint and Irma Thomas to George Porter Jr, Galactic, George French, The Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Ellis Marsalis as well as Delfeayo, Branford, and Jason Marsalis, Leroy Jones, Wendell Brunious, Shannon Powell, Herlin Riley, and more. Yet, the Golden Compass Trio is not afraid to add their own twist, in keeping with the old standard saying that “contributing your own life and experiences is what truly honors and ultimately preserves the music.”
