Vocalist, songwriter, and actress Eliza Sonnenschein was born in Germany to American, military parents but has lived in New Orleans since the age of five. The daughter of a pastor, Eliza discovered her talent singing her first solo in the choir.
Today, she is a professional musician whose powerful voice has taken her to festival stages in New Orleans and abroad. As the front-woman of Sunshine Avenue, Sonnenschein has become known for a distinctive sound that blends the richness of Soul music with the unmistakable flavor of New Orleans. The band has even headlined the Jazz Ascona Festival in Switzerland, representing the vibrant spirit of NOLA.
Music is only one dimension of Eliza’s artistry. Her portrayal of Nicki Marron in “The Bodyguard“ musical established her as a stage actress with a promising future in theater. Night after night, audiences heard her deliver powerful renditions of Whitney Houston’s iconic hits and stayed to witness her riveting portrayal of Nicki’s dramatic death.
